Juan Villar, DVM
Juan Villar
Dr. Villar was born in Spain but considers himself a Virginia native, having lived most of his life in Charlottesville. Early on he developed a keen interest in animals, having been in their constant company as a child. His family owned a small farm that at one time or another raised pet horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and let's not forget his prize winning donkey, Mikey.
Dr. Villar pursued his Bachelor's at the University of Virginia, where he spent his weekends and summers assisting in diabetes research at the UVa Medical School.
Between college and veterinary school Dr. Villar spent some time in the Navy where he was assigned to the surface ships USS Dewey and USS Belknap. After his time in the service he was accepted to Colorado State University of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Keenly interested in Emergency and Critical Care medicine, he did his externship at the Animal Medical Center, focusing on this important aspect of veterinary medicine.
Dr. Villar has practiced veterinary medicine in Colorado, North Carolina, and the ten most recent years in Northern Virginia, where he lives with his wife Jennifer, their twin daughters Sophie and Nora, and pets Ginny, Annie, Bubba, Kitty, and Rosella.

Laura Fontana, DVM
Laura Fontana

Dr. Laura Fontana is originally from Hockessin, DE. Growing up, Laura was constantly
surrounded by animals; family pets included dogs, cats, guinea pigs, gerbils, a bird, and
a turtle. Laura began horseback riding at the age of 7 and acquired her own horse Paint
when she was 11. She originally wanted to become a human orthopedic surgeon, but
found that a career as a veterinarian was a better fit as it allowed her to best unite her
fascination with animals and her medical interests and strengths.

Laura completed her undergraduate studies in 2005 at the University of Delaware, where
she acquired an Honors degree in Animal Science with a concentration in preveterinary
medicine. She then attended the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary
Medicine (VMRCVM).

After graduating from VMRCVM in 2009, Laura relocated to New England, where she
completed an internship at a sport horse referral practice. Her internship experience
afforded her the opportunity to attend to clients at the Winter Equestrian Festival in
Wellington, FL.

Laura competed in Hunter and Dressage shows as a college student, and now rides her
21 year old gelding Paint whenever she visits her hometown. As a result of her longtime
commitment to fitness and weightlifting, Laura began training for and competing in
Figure competitions during veterinary school. She is also fond of cooking, reading,
traveling, snowboarding, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends.
She currently resides in Warrenton.

Laura very much enjoys both equine and small animal ambulatory practice. She holds
veterinary licenses in Virginia, New York, and Florida, and maintains memberships with
the AVMA and AAEP.
